Media reported that the Thai authorities plan to ban the import of plastic waste into the country by 2025.
According to information provided by the Public Relations Department of the Thai government, "The Thai authorities plan to prevent the import of scrap and plastic waste into the country by 2025, to reduce the risk of pollution."
The department indicated that 14 plastic processing factories currently located in the free trade zones in Thailand will obtain permission to import plastic waste until 2024, and this will be done in two phases. For those factories, and the second phase, which will start in 2024, during which the amount of imports of these materials will be reduced by 50%, and in 2025 it is planned to implement a complete ban on the import of plastic waste into the country.
And by 2027, Thai authorities expect factories in the country to be able to recycle 100% of plastic products, which will reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the sea by almost 50%. Source: TASS
