Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that the removal of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar from the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee was due to her being "a Muslim and a critic of Israeli apartheid."
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani wrote in a tweet, "The tyrannical US Parliament's vote to dismiss Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, a Muslim and black-skinned critic of the Israeli apartheid regime, from one of the House of Representatives committees is evidence of the extent of the American regime's commitment to the motto of women, life, Freedom! Who only uses an excuse to interfere in our internal affairs.”
On Thursday, the US House of Representatives voted to remove Muslim Representative Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
And 218 Republican representatives supported the decision to remove Omar from the committee, while all 211 Democratic representatives opposed it, according to the Anadolu Agency.
Ahead of the vote, Representative Omar said in a speech to parliament that she is "a Muslim and an immigrant from Africa. Is anyone surprised that I am being targeted? Was any of you surprised that I somehow do not deserve to talk about American foreign policy?"
She added, "My voice will not be diminished if I am not a member of this committee for one term, but my voice will become louder and stronger."
