Veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos announced on Thursday his retirement from playing with his country after a busy career.
Ramos wrote on his Twitter account: "I will continue to support my country from home with the passion of the distinguished person who was able to proudly represent 180 matches. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"
The veteran defender played 180 international matches with the Spain national team, the last of which was in March last year.
The 36-year-old Ramos, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, is considered one of the most prominent players in the history of Spanish football, and one of the members of the golden generation of the Spanish national team that won two consecutive European Championships in 2008 and 2012, including the 2010 World Cup title.
