The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority has banned Wikipedia in the country for not complying with a request to remove content that is disrespectful to religious values.
And local media reported, on Saturday, that the 48-hour deadline given to the platform to remove these contents had expired.
A spokeswoman for the Communications Authority, Malahat Obaid, said: "The Wikipedia platform was banned in Pakistan for not removing content that was disrespectful to religious values."
She pointed out that Pakistan will reconsider the decision to block the site if the relevant contents are removed, according to local media.
And in early February, the Communications Authority announced that it had slowed down access to Wikipedia for 48 hours, under the pretext of not removing contents that included contempt for religious values.
She emphasized that Wikipedia would be banned in Pakistan for a long time if the said contents were not removed.
