Washington: US President Joe Biden on Tuesday accused tech giants of "experimenting on our children" in order to "make profits," stressing that these companies should be "responsible."
"It's time to pass bipartisan legislation to stop giant tech groups from collecting personal data on our children and teens," Biden said in his State of the Union address. He also called for a ban on targeted advertising targeting them. .
"We must hold social networks responsible for the experiments they conduct on our children for profit," said Biden, who had asked Congress last month to pass legislation on this issue.
In a column published Jan. 10 on the Wall Street Journal website, Biden called on parliamentarians from both parties to unite to strengthen legislation on protecting personal data, young users, "sexual exploitation" and "cyberharassment."
He stressed that "millions of young people suffer from harassment, violence, psychological trauma" and issues related to "mental health".
Makes total sense.
