SEOUL: North Korean authorities have ordered a five-day lockdown in the capital, Pyongyang, starting today, Wednesday, due to a rise in cases of a respiratory disease.
This came according to an official notice of the North Korean government, which the Seoul-based NK News said it had seen.
The order comes a day after a report by the same website said that Pyongyang residents appeared to be stockpiling goods after receiving advance warning of an upcoming lockdown.
The new notice said that the current prevalent illnesses in the capital included the common cold, but did not mention "Covid-19".
The notice said that residents are required to stay indoors until the end of Sunday and must undergo temperature checks several times a day.
It is unclear if other cities are also under lockdown, and state media has yet to announce the new measures.
And North Korea announced last August that it had completely eradicated “Covid 19” from its lands, which was questioned by experts.
