Video clips published by Pakistani media showed a person carrying a pistol storming the crowd and starting shooting at those present, targeting Khan, before he was arrested by the participants in the gathering.  Khan's "Insaf Movement" party confirmed that Khan had suffered a "slight" leg injury after the shooting.  Fouad Chaudhry, a senior official in the "Insaf Movement" party, told the local "Eri News" channel that Imran Khan "was slightly injured after a bullet hit his leg" before he was taken to the hospital.  Chaudhry confirmed the arrest of the attacker.  The Election Commission of Pakistan announced last month that Imran Khan was banned from participating in any elections or holding public office, for not revealing details of gifts he received when he was prime minister in a way that violates the law.  Khan's government was overthrown about six months ago by a vote of no confidence in his government led by a new ruling coalition led by Shahbaz Sharif as prime minister last April.  After the overthrow of his government, Pakistani cities witnessed mass demonstrations demanding the organization of early general elections.  Khan asserts that his dismissal was the result of an American "conspiracy." Khan lost the support of the army, which was accused of helping him gain power in 2018, and today he adopts a neutral position on the political process.
