An explosion in the vicinity of the "Urnco" factory for military explosives in southwest France resulted in several injuries, while the authorities continue their investigations into the causes of the accident.
Several people were injured, Wednesday, after an explosion occurred in the vicinity of a military explosives factory in the city of Bergerac, southwest France.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said that at least 7 people were injured and receiving treatment, while local media reported 8 injured, one of them seriously, according to the local "Mediafuner" website.
Darmanin said local officials have set up a crisis cell nearby, noting that emergency services at the site have asked people to avoid the area.
The French authorities did not reveal any additional details about the explosion, and said that it was an "unspecified source" explosion, according to the same source.
In turn, the police of the Dordogne region (southwest) said on Twitter that an explosion caused a fire at the "Urenco" factory in Bergerac.
The police indicated that a number of civil defense units and helicopters were dispatched to deal with the accident.
It is noteworthy that the company "Urenco" manufactures explosives for military and civilian uses such as drilling and mining.
