The National Police Chief reaffirms his commitment to provide safe and healthy homecoming services
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police Chief Gen. Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the institution he leads is committed to providing the best service so that travelers can carry out the Lebaran (Idul Fitri) 1443 Hijrah homecoming trip safely and comfortably and in a healthy manner.
"Obviously this is our top priority," said the National Police Chief as quoted in a video calling for the 2022 Eid homecoming which was distributed to journalists in Jakarta, Tuesday.
In the appeal, the National Police Chief said the government had issued a policy to allow people to travel back and forth, celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families in their hometowns.
With the permission to go home this year, he said, it was predicted that there would be a grand homecoming.
Based on the Ministry of Transportation's survey, it is predicted that 85 million people will go home, of which 23 million use cars and 17 million use motorbikes.
"This number is very large, and of course it has the potential to cause congestion on the homecoming route," he said.
To prevent congestion on the homecoming route, the former Police Chief of Criminal Investigation Unit said that the National Police and all relevant interested parties have prepared arrangements for homecoming travel through the application of traffic engineering, such as odd-even, one-way systems and other engineering.
"The National Police also appealed to the public to use other modes of public transportation such as planes and trains, so as to reduce the number of vehicles crossing the highway," he said.
Another effort, he said, is to avoid the peak of the homecoming flow by using alternative routes such as the north coast route (pantura), the south coast route (pansela). Then, carry out homecoming early on April 25-27, and it can also take advantage of the joint or free homecoming program prepared by the ministry/institution or private sector.
In order to keep the homecoming journey healthy, the National Police Chief also reminded that the COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet. Some countries such as China are currently experiencing a surge in positive cases. For this reason, the public is asked to continue to carry out health protocols in a disciplined manner, especially wearing masks and immediately completing the third or booster dose of vaccination.
"I remind you that the pandemic is not completely over," he said.
To make it easier for the public to get booster vaccinations, the National Police provides vaccine booths at every security post, service post and the Ketupat 2022 integrated post along the homecoming route.
"Let's keep it together so that this homecoming can be a healthy and comfortable homecoming. Healthy because we have been fully vaccinated and also booster, and comfortable because we can arrange the time for going home so that traffic jams can be avoided, "said Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
