Justice Qureshi between the lawyers and judges of the Rajasthan High Court on the last day of his termThe Supreme Court expressed surprise over the widespread truncation by the apex court in the list of advocates sent by the High Courts for appointment as judges. In this he (former CJI) has discussed about the transfer of several judges including the then Judge of Gujarat High Court Justice Qureshi and the then Chief Justice of Madras High Court. Justice Qureshi said, "I have not read the autobiography (of the former CJI) but have seen the news published in the media, in which some revelations have been made about manipulation of the recommendations of my name as the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh and Tripura High Courts. Huh. It has been said that the government had a negative perception of me based on my judicial views. He said, as a judge of a constitutional court, our duty is to protect the fundamental rights and human rights of citizens, which I believe is a testament to judicial independence. Justice Qureshi also appealed to young lawyers to stick to their principles.
