Luhut targets Indonesia to become the world's top five exporters of fishery products

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan targets Indonesia to become the top five exporters of world fishery products.

This was conveyed by Luhut, who directly inspected the area for the development of a supra-intensive shrimp pond, which uses Oxybam technology, which became a pilot program in Kampung Bahari Nusantara in Jembrana, Bali, Friday.

The shrimp pond is the result of the innovation of the nation's children which is realized through integrated collaboration and collaboration between the Navy, Jembrana Regency Government and private parties.

"This also shows that we are able to carry out food security programs and efforts to increase national shrimp production which has been one of the main export commodities and the largest source of foreign exchange earnings from the fisheries sector," Luhut said in an upload on the Instagram account @luhut.pandjaitan which was monitored in Jakarta, Friday.

Luhut also hopes that the program can continue in order to push the production target in 2024 to 2 million tons, and the shrimp export value targeted for 2024 to reach 4.3 billion US dollars.

"I really hope that this program can be sustainable so that it can provide enormous benefits, not only from the content of technological innovation but also how to contribute to the empowerment of coastal communities and economic growth in the region," he added

. In 2021, the sector recorded a positive growth of 5.45 percent from 2020.

Luhut also asked the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) to continue to encourage the fisheries sector to be managed as optimally as possible as a source of foreign exchange, employment, and a source of community food and processed industries.

"So, Indonesia is able to become the top five  (big five) exporters of global fishery products," he said.

Furthermore, in line with the spirit of the Indonesian Presidency at this year's G20 which also focuses on marine health issues, Luhut emphasized that the management aspect of environmental impacts arising from feed waste must receive special attention by all stakeholders, not just the development of food technology.

According to him, that is a manifestation of a sustainable approach because environmental sustainability efforts and the preservation of areas around ponds are concrete efforts for Indonesia's commitment in efforts to overcome the climate crisis.
