19 killed, dozens injured in New York apartment fire
New York: 19 people, including 9 children, were killed and dozens of others were injured in a fire in an apartment building in the Bronx borough of New York City, local media said on Sunday.
New York Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that 19 people died in the fire that broke out in a 19-story apartment building around 11 a.m. (Eastern time).
Earlier in the day, officials said that 32 people had been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and that the total number of injured was about 60.
Adams said in an interview with CNN, "At the moment there are 19 people who have been confirmed dead and we have many others. In critical condition."
