On Monday, the Arab League called on Israel to stop changing the urban character and demographic composition in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
This came according to a statement by the Arab League, the day after Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced a plan to double settlements in the Golan.
The Arab League called on the Israeli occupation authorities to stop changing the urban character, the demographic composition and the legal status of the occupied Syrian Golan.
It also called for an end to the establishment of Israeli settlements there, considering that all measures and procedures to change the character of the occupied Syrian Golan and its legal status are null and void.
She explained that the Israeli escalatory steps on the occupied Golan are a flagrant and flagrant violation of the principles of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.
She added, "This step comes as a continuation of previous dangerous steps on the occupied Syrian Golan, no less dangerous than the unprecedented expansion of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and systematic terrorizing the settlers."
The Arab League called on the international community to reject and condemn these practices, and to pressure Israel to abide by the resolutions of international legitimacy that affirmed the necessity of a complete withdrawal from all occupied Palestinian and Arab lands, including the Golan, according to the same statement.
And on Sunday, the Israeli Prime Minister pledged during his weekly meeting of his government, to double settlements in the Golan.
Bennett said: "For years, there has been stagnation in the settlements in the Golan. We have a big gap that must be filled, and we are starting that day Our goal is to double settlement in the Golan Heights."
The Israeli government has approved a comprehensive plan for the development of the Golan with a total of one billion shekels (about $317 million), in addition to modernizing the infrastructure, creating new areas and neighborhoods, and developing 2,000 job opportunities.
As part of the plan, 576 million shekels ($183 million) will be allocated for planning and housing, and about 3,300 housing units will be added to the Katzrin settlement within five years, according to Hebrew media.
Israel occupied the Golan Heights in 1967 and annexed it in 1981, but the United Nations and the countries of the world, with the exception of the United States, consider it occupied Syrian territory.
