Biden warns of a winter full of "severe illness and death" amid fears of the spread of Omicron
Biden warned that winter would bring severe illness and death to the unvaccinated. The director of the American "CDC" Institute said that "(Omicron) will soon be the dominant mutation in his country." While the US health authorities recommended the use of the "Pfizer" and "Moderna" vaccines instead of "Johnson".
US President Joe Biden warned Thursday that the Omicron mutated strain of the Corona virus will begin to spread much faster in the United States, calling on his citizens to receive vaccines against the virus, including the booster dose, because winter will bring severe illness and death to the unvaccinated.
The US president's statement came after Deputy White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre confirmed that the administration does not currently intend to take specific restrictive measures and prefers instead to focus its efforts on persuading the largest segment of the population to be vaccinated against the virus.
The United States currently records an average of 1,150 deaths per day from Covid, according to figures released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
According to official figures, the United States is considered the country most affected by the pandemic in terms of deaths (more than 800,000 deaths), ahead of Brazil, India, Mexico and Russia.
For his part, the Director of the US National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, announced that the Omicron mutant is the most spreadable of the recorded mutant from the Corona virus.
Fauci said it only takes 3 days for the omicron to double in the number of infections.
He suggested that the Omicron mutant will be the dominant mutant in the United States soon, but for the time being, the Delta mutant is still in the lead.
In a related context, the US health authorities on Thursday evening recommended using the “Pfizer” and “Moderna” vaccines instead of “Johnson & Johnson” to vaccinate all adults against Covid-19, due to blood clots that the single-dose vaccine is believed to be responsible for.
This recommendation issued by the Centers for Disease Prevention (CDC) represents a painful blow to the company "Johnson & Johnson", whose vaccine is accused of being behind nine deaths in the United States.
However, this recommendation does not mean banning this vaccine in the United States, as it will remain available, especially for people who cannot receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, especially due to allergic reactions that may be caused by the messenger RNA technology (RNA) on which these two vaccines depend.
As of the end of August, there were 54 cases of blood clots associated with Johnson's vaccine out of more than 14 million doses given.
The pandemic has so far claimed the lives of at least 5.3 million people worldwide since it began in late 2019, according to a census based on official sources.
But the World Health Organization estimates that the actual number of deaths will be two to three times higher.
