Malaysia's challenge at the Indonesian Open is over
The desire to see the Malaysian representatives go further in the 2021 Indonesian Open was not achieved after four national doubles lost in the quarterfinals of the tournament which took place at the Bali International Convention Center, Nusa Dua, yesterday.
National men’s doubles Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani failed to maintain momentum as they stunned Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist Lee Yang-Wang Chi-Lin in the second round yesterday when they lost to Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty of India.
However, the pairing of Goh and Nur Izzuddin put up a fierce resistance to the sixth seeded pair of the tournament which eventually ended a 21-19, 21-19 victory in 43 minutes to book a slot in the semi-finals.
The result was followed by the 21-14, 14-21, 16-21 defeat of professional men's doubles Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi to hosts Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo who is the world number one pair.
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, professional pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, who were placed as the fifth seed of the tournament, were disappointed by South Korean duo Ko Sung Hyun-Eom Hye Won 21-15, 16-21, 18-21 after fighting for 72 minutes.
Another national mixed pairing, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing, also ended their challenge at the tournament after failing to match the greatness of top seed from Thailand, Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai, 10-21, 10-21.
After this, the focus of the national badminton camp shifted to the International Badminton Federation (BWF) World Tour Final Badminton Championship which also took place there from 1 to 5 Dec.
United generally did not contest the Sarawak PRN
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the party will not contest in the Sarawak State Election (PRN) to be held next month.
Muhyiddin, who is also the National Alliance (PN) chairman, said the decision was made after a discussion session with Sarawak Coalition Party (GPS) chairman Abang Johari Openg recently.
“Bersatu will not contest in Sarawak because that is the wish of the GPS party leadership, even though we have certain places that we believe we can win, this is so that the existing party in Sarawak wins with excellence.
"So to respect the views of the leadership I am sure GPS has strength and GPS is a partner party in the government that existed when I served… so we respect their views," he said at a press conference after officiating the Third Pagoh Divisional United Conference in Lenga, in Muar today.
However, the former prime minister said Abang Johari gave the impression that in the 15th General Election (GE15), he said he would probably consider any other party to join GPS, including PN.
"The most important thing in the discussion (with Abang Johari), the view from the GPS is that the existing seats are maintained," he said.
The Election Commission (EC) has set Dec 18 as the polling day for the 12th Sarawak PRN and the nomination day has been set for Dec 6, while the early voting day is Dec 14.

Commenting on the resignation of Bersatu vice -president Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen as chairman of the Melaka National Alliance (PN) and head of Bersatu Melaka, Muhyiddin said a new replacement for the post would be announced in the near future.
Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh Member of Parliament, said Mohd Rafiq's action was considered an honorable step, thus enabling the reshuffle of the State Leadership Body (BPN) to be made following the Melaka PRN.
“It is proven that he resigned and this is an honorable step, which is to give way so that we can reshuffle the BPN. I will decide who will replace or reshuffle in a few days, ”he said.
Yesterday, Mohd Rafiq announced his decision to resign with immediate effect, to give the new leadership the opportunity to lead Bersatu Melaka and PN Melaka, to have enough time to prepare for GE15.
When asked about Umno's call for GE15 to be expedited, Muhyiddin said he had already informed Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, so that discussions could be held to determine the appropriate time.
“I have informed the prime minister that there should be discussions to determine the appropriate time, maybe at the prime minister level according to the constitution it will lead to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
"But I am sure it will take into account the situation and circumstances as well as cooperation between political parties established through a memorandum of understanding (MOU), in stabilizing the political situation," said Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh assemblyman.
On Nov 21, Umno Deputy President Mohamad Hasan, who is also the Regional Assemblyman, was reported to have said that GE15 should be held in the near future. Bernama
PAS youth rejects views that are not in line with the president
PAS Malaysia Youth stressed that any statement made by certain parties and not in line with the stand of their president, Abdul Hadi Awang, is not the party's official ruling.
Its chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said they stood firmly behind Abdul Hadi on the issue of uniting the ummah in the country.
According to him, the biggest aspect to strengthen the unity of the ummah is to unite the Malay Muslim community as well as the majority bumiputera and must involve all parties to celebrate the diversity of Malaysian society.
"PAS Youth stands firm with the president's statement which is the party's struggle policy and stressed that any statement from any party that is not in line with the statement is not the party's official stand, and should not be linked to PAS," he said in a statement issued last night.
PAS is now facing the issue of choosing cooperation between Umno - which was signed first through Muafakat Nasional (MN) - and Bersatu through Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Compared to MN, PN affiliates are registered entities.
PAS's firm action with PN during the state election (PRN) in Melaka recently saw the dissatisfaction of some parties, especially when their candidates competed with Umno-BN in seven seats.
Fully support Hadi's views
Yesterday, the Umno Veterans Club suggested that MN be dissolved to end the protracted polemic with PAS.Its secretary -general, Mustapha Yaakub, said the final decision was actually made by PAS when the party rejected MN and chose PN.“Therefore, it is better to make a final decision by dissolving it. Finish the story and close the book, "he said.
The issue is also seen to make PAS 'turbulent' when a group of its leaders tend to choose cooperation with Umno instead of Bersatu.Observers are of the opinion that the difference of opinion can be seen in the recent election of the PAS central leader in Kuala Terengganu.
A few days after the Melaka PRN ended - and PAS failed to win any seats - Bachok MP Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz reminded his party to rectify the situation and work directly with Umno again.
Even Nik Abduh who lost in the recent election considers “the best political deal signed in decades ago” to be MN. Nik Abduh, however, was brought to join the PAS Central Committee through an appointment on Nov 23.
For the record, Abdul Hadi previously stressed that PAS remains concerned with cooperation with Umno through MN and at the same time continue their presence in PN.But at the same time, the prime minister's special envoy to the Middle East also stressed that PAS rejected the National Consensus (MN) which was "shackled by only involving Umno and PAS."Abdul Hadi said PAS also rejects the notion that denies the existence of a plural society and must be addressed by a larger idea, namely through PN.
According to Ahmad Fadhli, PAS Youth fully supports Abdul Hadi's statement."The unification of the ummah cannot be limited to a few groups only, it must move in parallel," he said.
