Clashes erupted on Sunday evening between Palestinian youths and Israeli forces east of occupied Jerusalem, following a march to mourn the death of a Palestinian who carried out an armed attack in the city.

Anadolu Agency reported that the confrontations erupted at the Shuafat camp checkpoint, east of occupied Jerusalem, after a mourning march for the martyrdom of Fadi Abu Shkhaydam, 42, a resident of the camp.

On Sunday morning, a Palestinian was martyred, an Israeli was killed and 3 others were wounded, as a result of shooting in the Old City of the occupied city of Jerusalem, according to the Israeli police and the Hebrew media.

He added that the army heavily fired tear gas canisters, sound bombs and rubber bullets, causing dozens of suffocation cases, while the youths responded by hitting stones and empty bottles at Israeli soldiers and military vehicles.

Earlier on Sunday, the Israeli forces stormed the house of "Abu Shekidam" in Shuafat, and arrested a number of his family members, for interrogation.

According to local sources, the Israeli authorities later released the daughter of the martyr Aya Abu Shkheidam, his child Abdullah, and his brothers Wissam, Hussam and Shadi Abu Shkheidam, after they were held for hours for interrogation, while the arrest of the young man, Basil Abu Shkheidam, a relative of the martyr, was extended until Monday.

In turn, the national and Islamic forces in "Shuafat" called for a comprehensive strike on Monday for all walks of life and educational institutions in the camp to mourn the martyrdom of Abu Shkhaydam.

And on Sunday, the Israeli police said in a statement: “At approximately 09:00 this morning (07:00 GMT), a Palestinian armed with a Carlo weapon carried out a shooting attack in the Old City of Jerusalem.” the operation.

The Israeli newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, quoted Israeli police chief, Yaakov Shaftai, as saying that "the Palestinian who carried out the attack was Fadi Abu Shchedim, 42, from the Shuafat refugee camp in Jerusalem," while Israeli officials said that the attacker belonged to Hamas.
