Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that the tense Algerian-French relations "must return to normal", but on the condition of dealing on a "peer-to-peer" basis between the two countries. This came in an interview with local newspapers broadcast on state television on Friday evening. In response to the question “Are there efforts to restore French-Algerian relations to their normal state?”, the Algerian president said: “Yes, it is necessary (must) that relations return to their normal state, provided that the other understands that peer to peer is not a provocation to him.” He was martyred for his sake, as I said before, five million and 630 thousand martyrs from 1830 to 1962. (From the beginning of the French occupation of Algeria until its independence). He continued, "Things will not come easy and I do not need you," indicating that Algeria does not need France. Macron angered Algeria after statements reported by Le Monde newspaper on October 2, accusing the Algerian "political-military" regime of devoting "revenues to memory" by presenting its people with an "official history that is not based on facts." According to the newspaper, he also said, "The construction of Algeria as a nation is a phenomenon worth watching. Was there an Algerian nation before French colonialism? This is the question". But the French presidency quoted Macron regretting "the differences and misunderstandings" with Algeria, stressing that he has "the greatest respect for the Algerian nation" and "its history", which Algeria welcomed and sent its foreign minister to Paris to participate in an international conference on Libya. Tebboune added that Algeria is "too big to be under the protection or wing" of France, expressing at the same time his readiness to deal with trade and preserve the interests of both parties. He said, "We agree to deal together in order not to obstruct the interests of each party, but we will not accept anything being imposed on us." On October 3, Algeria recalled its ambassador to France, in protest of Macron's statements, and banned the flights of French military aircraft operating in the Sahel region. Regarding the development of the severed relations with Morocco since August, Tebboune considered it "shameful" that "a minister from the entity comes to an Arab country to threaten another Arab country." It was not understood from the Algerian president's statement whether he meant the visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid in August or the visit of Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Wednesday to Morocco, where the two countries signed an agreement on security cooperation. British Chief of Staff: Russia is the most dangerous threat to our country The Chief of the General Staff of the British Army, Sir Nick Carter, said that Russia represents the greatest danger to Britain, stressing that his country's military is following up on Russian activities. The Chief of the British Army's General Staff, Sir Nick Carter, said that Russia "poses a greater danger" to Britain than extremist organizations. "We live in a period of great change, and I think there is more change now than during the two world wars of the last century," Carter said in a statement to the British newspaper, The Telegraph. He continued, "I became chief of the General Staff in the summer of 2014, and we were arguing at the time about whether the source of the danger was violent extremism or Russia. At that point the arguments for violent extremism were advanced." "But later in 2018 we had the attack on the Skripals in Salisbury, and it became clear that Russia represented the greatest danger to our country." He stressed that the British military is following up on Russian activities, noting that there is no alternative to dialogue with Russia. In addition to Russia, the general said Britain was concerned about China's "military and political maneuvers" and was closely following Iran's activities in the Middle East. It should be noted that Nicholas Carter is expected to leave his post on December 1. It is reported that Russia has rejected Western accusations of its involvement in the alleged poisoning of ex-intelligence man and double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Britain in 2018.
