American faces 5-year prison sentence for threatening to kill Ilhan Omar

Documents show that Capitol Police were able to identify Bizuto as the caller through a cell tower near his Florida home.

A 73-year-old American man has been convicted of making threatening calls to a member of Congress from his home in Sarasota County, Florida.

According to the evidence presented to the trial, Frank Bizuto made 3 threatening phone calls to progressive MP Ilhan Omar.

In the first call, which was recorded on January 25, 2020, he said he was on his way to Washington to kill her, as he claimed to be part of the M-13 gang.

Bizuto left a voice message on a second call to the Muslim Democrat's office, saying: "Tell her I'm going to kill her."

Authorities reported that Bizuto made each threatening call from his home using a mobile phone, but concealed the phone number.

The documents show that Capitol Police were able to identify Bizuto as the caller through a cell tower near his Florida home.

As a result, Pesotto was found guilty of sending 3 separate threatening letters to infect members of Congress.

Bizuto faces a maximum of five years in federal prison, but no sentencing date has been set.

Omar wrote in a tweet on Twitter, commenting on the defendant’s conviction that “the use of violent rhetoric in political discourse is incitement and certainly creates an environment in which members of Congress receive constant death threats. Enough, today a man from Florida was convicted for leaving a horrific message to office staff.”
