A draft resolution in the Congress condemns the "Sudan coup". The University of Khartoum suspends studies and the gathering of professionals pledges to close the streets

Protest in Sudan against military takeover
Supporters of the ousted government continue to demonstrate against the army's actions.
Today, Saturday, the University of Khartoum announced the suspension of studies indefinitely, and condemned the security attacks on students, while the Association of Professionals set dates for civil disobedience and pledged to close the streets.

While the army accused former officials of inciting international institutions against the country in conjunction with the presentation of a draft resolution to Congress condemning the "coup," a delegation from the Arab League begins a visit to Khartoum in an attempt to resolve the crisis that followed the army's isolation of the transitional government on the 25th of last October.

Today, Saturday, the University of Khartoum decided to suspend studies indefinitely.

This came in a statement issued by the Board of Trustees of the university, which is considered the most prestigious of Sudanese universities, and the statement said, "We have decided to suspend studies in all faculties of the university for an indefinite period."

The statement denounced the Sudanese security's attacks on university students inside the university housing, and the university's board of trustees stressed in their statement its rejection of the "military coup".

Hour of defeat
In turn, the Sudanese Professionals Association announced today, Saturday, the date for closing the streets, and called for civil disobedience on the next Sunday and Monday.

The Association of Professionals said - in a tweet on Twitter - that what it described as a "coup" is confused and isolated, and the hour of its imminent defeat will strike with the organization of ranks and the integration of efforts.

The assembly added that the Sudanese people have broken the arrogance of this treacherous council more than once and will do it again, according to what was stated in the tweet.

For its part, the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors confirmed the killing of 14 people in the demonstrations that took place following the decisions of the army on the 25th of last October.

She said that the number of injured in the demonstrations exceeded 180, including critical cases and permanent disabilities.

Tight look
In the same context, the Sudanese army on Saturday accused former diplomats and officials of harming and inciting international institutions against their country.

This came in a statement issued by Al-Taher Abu Haja, media advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army.

The military official said, "Some (he did not name) former diplomats and officials inciting international institutions against their people and their country, and harming the parties to which they belong and the country."

He added, "The assessments of those who turn international institutions against their people and their homeland have gone astray day and night. They have overshadowed the narrow view of the supreme national interest."

Former diplomats and ministers in Abdullah Hamdok's government oppose the decisions of Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to declare a state of emergency, dissolve the Sovereignty and Ministers Councils, and arrest party leaders, ministers and officials, last October 25.

Condemnation of the seizure of power
The army statement coincided with the presentation of lawmakers in the US House of Representatives and Senate with a draft resolution condemning what they called the "coup in Sudan" and affirming standing by the Sudanese people.

The draft resolution affirms the recognition of the ousted Prime Minister and his government as the constitutional leaders of the transitional government.

The military council is calling for the release of government officials and members of civil society.

The draft resolution also calls on US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to identify those he described as the leaders of the coup and their accomplices, to consider the possibility of imposing sanctions on them.

The fate of the negotiations
On the level of negotiations, two sources from the government of the ousted Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok said today, Saturday, that "the negotiations to find a solution to the political crisis in Sudan after the coup have reached an almost dead end", after the army refused to return to the path of democratic transition.

The two sources added that the army also tightened restrictions on Hamdok after dissolving his government and placing him under house arrest.

In the meantime, a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Arab League begins a visit to Khartoum this evening, Saturday, to contribute to addressing the crisis situation in Sudan.

An official source in the General Secretariat stated that the delegation is scheduled to meet with Sudanese leaders from the various components with the aim of supporting efforts to cross the current political crisis, in light of the signed agreements governing the transitional period, in order to achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people towards peace, development and stability.
